Hello. I’m Marc Haynes, and I write for a living. It’s not a good living, but I like it.
I’m currently writing, but can also be heard from time to time on BBC 6 Music, where I do a show with Richard Bacon. We’re currently doing a show from 1pm until 4pm every day, filling in for Cerys Matthews – this current slot lasts until Friday the 30th and so far, we’ve had a tremendous time: a really lovely place to work. I got to meet Suede’s Brett Anderson, who is one of my Top Five Musical Heroes of all time, and entirely creeped him out – bit of advice, never let your heroes meet you. Neither of you will enjoy it.
And if the Danny Wallace BBC6 podcast is still available, then I talk about weird books on that one. Download it from iTunes if it is - it’s a lovely show.
I used to work for the London-based music station XFM. It used to bill itself as “alternative” but I’m not sure it does anymore. Here’s a picture of me they took in a board room with a white sheet behind me.
They airbrushed my face afterwards, and changed the white sheet to black. Nothing was right.
BBC 6 Music haven’t taken a photo of me. That’s not a great sign for long-term employment.

The podcast is out now, and it’s gone mental – three days, and it’s at number 5 in the overall podcast chart in the UK. Pete and Danny really deserve it – they’re the greatest guys you could meet. I used to listen to you on Richard Bacons show on XFM and Capital FM a few years ago, it was great to hear you to together again on 6Music today. I heard Richard say he is like a broadcasting version of a supply teacher but you do any other shows on any stations? Keep up the good work, just found your site via Richard’s twitter page that he advertised today.

Hey Owen – it’s just 6 Music for the time being, but all my old Xfm podcasts (on movies) are still up on iTunes. Other than that, there’s no more radio work – I’m (a) too picky and (b) not good enough to do any others! Rich and I are back on 6 Music in October – we’re absolutely loving doing the show together again, so we’ve let the station know we want to do lots more – fingers crossed! All the best, Marc
